LETTER OF APPEAL FOR HELP FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

Plum Village Nursery Monastery Thailand,

September 11, 2024

The tip of the willow branch is covered with the dew of compassion. A single drop of it could fill all ten directions. And all worldly suffering would be gone. The pure altar is right here. Namo Bodhisattva Thanh Luong Dia.

Dear friends,

Typhoon Yagi has just passed, causing much devastation in the provinces in the North of Vietnam. The storm has just ended, yet right after comes the flood, causing great damage to property and people. We cannot hold back our tears of sorrow when hearing the news that flash floods have buried the entire village of Lang Nu, Lao Cai province, killing 16 people; the landslide that occurred in Yen Bai, killing 4 people in a family, the youngest child was only 2 months old; or the collapse of Phong Chau bridge in Phu Tho, leaving 10 people missing. And there is still more that we yet to hear about those painful losses. Let us return to rely on our breath, calm our bodies and minds, and send peaceful energy to the victims and their loved ones in this natural disaster.

With the spirit of "when one horse is in pain, the whole stable will not eat grass", people in places not affected by Typhoon Yagi have contributed money and effort to help the victims. We feel heartwarming when reading the news that a professor in Ho Chi Minh City donated 1 billion VND from his savings; a group of 4 young people used their own money to buy relief supplies, then flew on a plane to participate in relief. There are many more similar stories. How touching is the spirit of "compassion" of The Vietnamese people. Our "love others as you would yourself" attitude is clearly expressed in these difficult times.
